Hardware Technologist - #10009

Responsibilities:
As part of the Aerospace and Defense hardware team, you will help develop and test advanced navigation systems incorporating RF and Digital Hardware. You will be involved in formal circuit and product qualification testing (including performance, environmental and regulatory), part qualification, trouble shooting prototype hardware, investigation of reported design defects, implementation and testing of design changes. Your duties may includes the creation of schematics, test procedures, test reports, and test automation scripts. You will work closely with hardware designers, other technologists and system experts.

Qualifications:
You have a technician or technologist diploma from a recognized program with minimum of five years relevant experience. You have demonstrated resourcefulness and have the ability to persevere towards the completion of tasks. You have strong analytical and trouble shooting skills, as well as previous experience with trouble shooting and testing circuits consisting of microprocessors, CPLDs and FPGAs, RF and Analog circuits, and switching power conversion. Excellent surface mount soldering skills and superior communication skills are essential. Previous electronics design experience is considered an asset.

Product Verification Engineer (Internship / Co-Op) - #10005

Responsibilities:
You will work as part of the NovAtel Product Verification group which is responsible for verifying the performance of NovAtel’s world class GNSS products. Job responsibilities include the planning, automation and execution of tests, analyzing test data, identifying firmware defects, performing detailed investigations, and compiling all results in a written format. You may also create or maintain test utilities and procedures using Word, Excel, Perl, and MS Visual C++. Some local field work outside of the NovAtel site is required including dynamic and stationary testing. The job offers a combination of hands-on experience and theoretical understanding in the expanding GNSS field.

Qualifications:
You are registered in an electrical, computer, or geomatics Engineering Internship / Co-op program and will have completed your 3rd year of studies by the start of your internship. You must be available for a minimum work term of 8 months.. You must also have a valid driver’s license and experience in C++ in a Windows environment using Microsoft Visual C++. The ability to work in a team environment and pay close attention to detail is required. Knowledge of GPS/GNSS would be an asset.

Software Designer - #10002

Responsibilities:
You will be part of a small motivated team within the Research and Technology department. You will develop and evaluate software architectures for software defined radio receivers that decode Spread Spectrum signals, including Global Navigation Satellite Signals and other communication signals. Upon completion of the software radio research, you will be tasked with other challenging software problems, including the research and development of new (or improvements to old) precision positioning products, processes, and solutions for our customers.

Firmware / Software Designer - #10001

Responsibilities:
NovAtel’s L1 Group is looking for an experienced Software Designer / Engineer to join the team responsible for the development of various GNSS receivers and products. The GNSS firmware, which is written in C/C++, runs in a multi-tasking environment using a real-time operating system. The duties will consist of:

  • Requirements definition, software design, coding, testing, debugging, new test procedure development, documentation, and product support
  • Working with the product verification group to resolve firmware defects
  • Providing software enhancements and maintenance for current GNSS receiver products
  • Developing and assisting in the development of new features for existing and new GNSS receiver platforms
  • Writing structured, commented, and concisely documented application code and low-level drivers

On an as needed basis, you may also be involved in board-level design, review, and testing of digital circuits involving ASICs, memory interfaces (Flash, SRAM, DDR), I/O interfaces (UART, USB, CAN, Ethernet, etc.), baseband receiver IQ signals, software/hardware PLL, and more.

Qualifications:
You have an electrical, computer or geomatics engineering degree, along with a minimum of four years experience with embedded firmware development using C/C++. Embedded system hardware expertise would be an asset. Prior GNSS knowledge or design/test/debug experience would also be an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked with ARM processors, Green Hills RTOS development tools, and version control software (e.g. TrueChange, ClearCase). Previous experience in using high-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab instruments would be beneficial.

Hardware Designer - #5771

Responsibilities:
NovAtel’s Technology Development Hardware Design Team is looking for an experienced hardware and FPGA designer. Reporting to the team lead, the primary responsibilities relate to design, prototype, engineering test, manufacturing introduction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of hardware and FPGA designs for various GPS/GNSS related products.

Qualifications:
You have a university degree in electrical or computer engineering along with a minimum of 5 years relevant circuit board and FPGA experience. In addition, you have the following:

  • Detailed knowledge of the design and operation of digital, analog and power conversion circuits, specifically 32-bit microprocessors, JTAG, advanced memory technologies such as DDR and NAND Flash, A/D converters, and step-up and step-down switching regulators
  • Previous experience in designing FPGAs/ASICs with proven capability of ensuring quality design through proper design synthesis, test bench design and simulations, and capturing the appropriate place and route design constraints to ensure performance and repeatability
  • Capability to verify and validate engineering design performance by establishing and executing engineering tests, developing design simulations, completing design analysis, and identifying, isolating, and resolving performance problems
  • Knowledge of product development process, ability to follow instructions, experience with test equipment and test methodologies, attention to detail and strong documentation and communications skills are required
  • GPS and RF design knowledge is desired, but not necessary

Responsibilities:
As part of NovAtel’s Compliance team, you will be responsible for driving the company’s Environmental Compliance strategy for standards such as REACH, RoHS, China RoHS, Ozone Depleting, WEEE, and JGPSSI. In addition you will be required to research new environmental initiatives which will impact NovAtel’s business and prepare action plans for how to address them. You will oversee the implementation of policies and processes for handling environmental programs which may include:

  • Communicating and coordinating with internal teams and external contractors
  • Maintaining databases and preparing written reports
  • Reviewing results documents and preparing response plans
  • Defining requirements to ensure compliance
  • Working with external experts and authorities
  • Being the company’s expert in all aspects of environmental compliance
  • Interfacing with customers and suppliers

You may also be required to help support NovAtel’s development teams for EMC, Regulatory, and Safety compliance in the same ways as outlined above.

Qualifications:
You have a minimum of 5 years experience in an environmental or regulatory compliance role with experience in managing a corporate compliance strategy. Knowledge of the environmental standards for REACH, RoHS and WEEE is required, along with an understanding of EMC, Regulatory, and Safety standards. You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the latest environmental standards and the impact that they have on a Canadian Manufacturer with world-wide sales channels. In addition, you must have experience communicating with contractors and suppliers. Superior verbal and written documentation skills are required, along with the ability to work within a multi-functional team.
